MARION WOLF QUARTETT 🎻

Contemporary jazz meets dialect - poetic, daring, refreshing

About the project

The Marion Wolf Quartet is a band from Austria dedicated to blending contemporary jazz aesthetics with poetic dialect lyrics in the Carinthian vernacular. The finely crafted lyrics by the bandleader integrate in a surprisingly natural way into the ensemble’s open, improvisational soundscape.

Another central artistic focus of the quartet is to establish the violin as an independent, improvising solo-instrument.

At the heart of the band is composer, vocalist, and violinist Marion Wolf, whose voice and violin are in constant, unfiltered dialogue with her ensemble. Striking a balance between a clear artistic signature and expressive sonic energy, the music creates a language that feels both intimate and unpretentious – personal, hip, and refreshingly unconcerned with convention.

Marion Wolf – violin, vocals

Fabian Mang – piano

Luka Dobnikar – double bass

Christoph Suttner – drums

Line-Up

Style & Repertoire

The quartet performs both instrumental pieces, where the violin takes center stage as an improvisational solo instrument, and songs with poetic dialect lyrics that explore themes such as self-control, identity, and inner landscapes. The musicians consider their foundation to be deeply rooted in traditional Jazz. However, the tracks on their debut album stand out above all for their cross-genre diversity, incorporating elements from genres such as Hip hop, Latin, Gospel, and World Music.

Notable influences on the composer include Tigran Hamasyan, Cécile McLorin Salvant, and Baiju Bhatt.
